Our Story
The Beginning of Savory Kitchen and Catering
Emmarie Flores was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where her parents were attending college and was raised in Silver City, New Mexico. Growing up, Mrs. Flores was around the restaurant business from sun up to sun down. Her parents and grandparents owned the Penjamo in Bayard and a few other restaurants after that. "This was where my love for food grew. I was always around my mother and grandparents who cooked the most wonderful food," said Flores. Flores was told by her grandmother that her great grandfather was a chef for the Murray Hotel downtown. "I have many memories of rich culture all around family and food." Flores attended Western New Mexico University and received her Bachelors in Movement Science and a Masters in Teaching. She then started working as the Family Consumer Science Home Economics teacher at La Plata Middle School. Flores was later on transferred to Silver High School and is currently teaching culinary arts, as well as Eastern New Mexico University dual credit classes in food safety, baking, and pastry. Flores states that family is everything to her as she has been married to WNMU Chief of Police, Eddie Flores, for twenty-three years. They have six children and twelve grandchildren. She states that her favorite thing to do is to cook for them. Flores purchased a food truck earlier this year and will be operating under Savory Kitchen and Catering, LLC.
